Santa’s Calling is sponsored by the St. Petersburg Recreation Department staff.

Volunteers are assigned an office where they become the North Pole Operator (female) and Santa Claus (male). They are provided with a stack of forms which were distributed at elementary schools and filled in by parents. The forms contain information about the children, their families and pets’ names, suggestions about how well they behave or can improve and what they probably would wish for as Christmas gifts.

The “operator” telephones the child and turns the phone over to Santa who ad libs a conversation with the child. It is a great project, costs very little and reaches hundreds of local kids each year.

Volunteers are members from around the community from clubs and organizations such as churches, fire departments and other city departments.
